PARENTAL ADVISORY NOTICE: This Workshop Series Presenter runs a PG-13 Conference. Random cursing has occurred in the past. The presenter does his best to use outdated curse words that you have to Google to understand their meaning, like “tarnation” and “dagnabbit”. So, if you think a “muckspout couldn’t teach a hen to cluck” or if you find current curse words offensive … then DO NOT ATTEND!

DISCLAIMER: Management is cautioning that if offense occurs to you due to random (tier 2, not the really bad) curse words, then it is possible this is NOT the workshop for you. Caution! Presenter has sharp edges. This can be a very boisterous presentation. Laughing and learning has been shown to have certain side effects in less than 1% of the population. Side effects include professional confusion from laughing and learning, and mild to moderate irritability in some users. In rare instances it can lead to severe reactions, such as wanting to contact the authorities. If any of these have occurred previously, take immediate actions that may include, but not limited to, not attending this workshop/conference series! A good sense of humor is required in order to attend. You know your humor limitations; this presenter DOES NOT!

Previous Workshop Feedback

I know what you’re thinking … a webinar? Really? Yes, and I solemnly swear to do my best to not make this a snooze fest! Here is recent feedback from webinars:

“BEST WORKSHOP I’ve ATTENDED and I’m an educator of 26 years.” – September, 2024

I have taken numerous trainings but truly found this one to be one of the best. The amount of applicable information that is made further relatable by actual practice examples was invaluable. I think providing supervision is often taken lightly by some and this course provided clear reasons for why that should not be the case. I have recommend this training to my colleagues, even if they are not pursuing the ACS, but are supervising clinicians in any capacity.” – August, 2024

“The most useful part of the course was how the enchanting presenter weaved a typically boring topic into an intricate and captivating tapestry. You skillfully ensured every participant remained attentively engaged, turning what could have been mundane into a spellbinding experience.” – July, 2024

“Glenn’s style is a perfect blend of deep knowledge, excellent preparation and fun stand-up.” – July, 2024

“This course was packed full of information and resources that I will be putting into use in my professional work! Glenn is incredibly knowledgeable. His use of humor and vulnerability added greatly to this value of the course by making the information very relatable! I would recommend this course to anyone who asks (or even those who don’t)!” – April, 2024

“I really enjoyed the training and found it tremendously helpful. We are about to implement the ASAM criteria into our program, and I feel so much more confident in not only doing it myself, but showing our staff how to utilize it. You are the best trainer I’ve ever had at any training I’ve gone to in my professional career, so thank you for basically doing stand up comedy while teaching us!” – March, 2024

“Glenn is always very engaging, extremely knowledgeable, and creates such an open, interactive training space. Thank you!” – February, 2024

“I am thoroughly satisfied with this workshop. I don’t think I’ve laughed out loud so much in a workshop and looked forward to attending on subsequent days after the initial session. Excellent—and I’ve been to decades of trainers! I have attended supervision courses before and was a bit apprehensive that it would be repetative or boring, or both. I am so relieved that I learned new information.” – September, 2023

“This course was so well done! I was very impressed with Glenn’s method of delivery. Who knew a PowerPoint presentation could be enjoyable? Glenn utilized so many different sources of solid information to support his presentation, his sense of humor, and old school radio DJ voice really made the information communicated a great learning experience.” – July, 2023

“The thoroughness of Michigan laws and rules and the examples given were excellent. I also appreciated the interaction with other therapists. The material shared from the presenter was generous and so necessary. If that was not shared I think I would feel overwhelmed. The pacing and humor was very appreciated and allowed us to laugh and include a sense of humor while learning some heavy material. This is the best professional development I have been a part of.” – April, 2023

“Your workshop has been amazing; 18 years in this profession and I have never attended a workshop or conference that has completely captivated my attention the way that this course has. I have never experienced a speaker willing to take as many questions as you have.” – March, 2023

“I love Glenn’s presentation style – it is always engaging, time flies by and I receive a ton of information!” – January, 2023

“Glenn did an incredible job presenting the information in a way that was interesting and engaging. It will certainly be helpful in my everyday practice. I would attend any trainings done by Glenn. Zoom trainings can be daunting, and often I end up multitasking, but i paid attention during the entire full day training.” – October, 2022

“This was the best course I have had during my entire 30 year career. Hard not to pay attention since I was laughing the through most of it. Great sense of humor while presenting this material. Easier to learn when the instructor is presenting in this fashion.” – October, 2022

“Maintaining audience attention via Zoom for 4 days is difficult to achieve, yet this facilitator mastered this difficult task. He was extremely engaging and creative, and equally knowledgeable about clinical supervision best practices.” – September, 2022

This entire workshop was beyond my expectations!! I learned so much valuable information and was engaged throughout the entire presentation. Glenn Duncan should be the only one allowed to teach this course, as he can knowledge beyond his years. I wish Glenn Duncan could be every professional’s supervisor, as he is spot on. I love the information displayed during our breaks.” – July, 2022

“The most useful part of this course was the combination of comprehensive information, and how it was delivered. Glenn was enthusiastic and informative. He had endless informative examples and was ready to answer any questions that came up.” – April, 2022

Conference FAQ Section

1) Is this conference eligible to count for the 30 hours of training required by LARA, Board of Counseling?

YES! This comprehensive clinical supervision conference covers the 9 areas required by the Michigan Board of Counseling, and we are an NBCC approved provider. The Board of Counseling requires that your training cover the 9 core areas set on R338.1781, Rule 81 – 2(b): “The specialized training specified in subrule 2a of this rule” (30 clock hours of workshop training in counseling supervision), “shall include studies in all of the following topics”:

  1. 1. Roles and functions of counseling supervisors.
  2. 2. Models of counseling supervision.
  3. 3. Mental health-related development.
  4. 4. Methods and techniques in counseling supervision.
  5. 5. Supervisory relationship issues.
  6. 6. Cultural issues in supervision.
  7. 7. Group supervision.
  8. 8. Legal and ethical issues in counseling supervision.
  9. 9. Evaluation of supervisee and the supervision process.

This comprehensive supervision program covers all of these areas, covers Michigan specific laws and regulations (see next FAQ question), and will absolutely satisfy your requirements.

2) Have the Michigan Supervision Regulations Changed Recently?

YES! Michiganders recently accomplished something historic by positively lobbying the house and senate to pass HB 4325 (now Public Act 96). In this statutory act, a new statute has been added, statute 333.18106. This statute states that LPCs are required to receive training in supervision to supervise LLPCs. They then state the structure of this training will be promulgated by LARA, Board of Counseling. On May 5, 2021 the LARA Board of Counseling adopted regulations R 338.1751 – R 338.1781. R 338.1781, Rule 81 did make some changes to supervision in MI. The main change is that people who start supervising after May 5, 2022 will need to be in the counseling field (post-master’s) for 5 years (currently it is set at 3 years post-master’s).

3) Will this conference be specific to the issues/regulations of the Michigan LPC/LLPC?

YES! This conference has been specifically tailored to cover Michigan licensure regulations and Michigan supervision regulations on our day 4 – Legal and Ethical Aspects of Clinical Supervision. This PowerPoint that the lecture is very specific to Michigan licensure standards, and covers the major legal and ethical issues facing clinical supervisors and then specifically discusses each of those standards as defined by the LARA and Michigan.gov.

4) If I am unable to attend one day of the 30 hour workshop program, should I still sign up, and if so, how can I make-up what I missed?

We have 1 additional home study course that can be taken to make up for 1 day that you cannot attend. We have a total of 2 distance learning (home study) courses and we are utilizing one distance learning (home study) course as part of the 30 hour curriculum training. Therefore only 1 day in total can be missed mandating that the attendee be phyiscally present for 3 of the 4 conference days.

5) Is the Home Study Course part of the $595.00 cost of the workshop program or is it an additional $119.00?

The total cost of the 30 clock hour clinical supervision workshop program is $595.00, which includes the 4 live workshop days and the 1 home study course. There is no additional charge for this 30 clock hour workshop program.

6) Will you be offering this course in person or as a webinar?

Pre-pandemic all we did was live workshops. Now that the pandemic has changed our continuing education habits to live, interactive webinars over platforms such as Zoom, the ease of attending a workshop series at your office or home office is currently outweighing the desire for many to return back live. We were planning on going back to live workshops in the Fall of 2022, but participant feedback was overwhelmingly still leaning on the desire to do live, interactive webinars as participants don’t have to fight traffic, gas prices, possible hotel fees, and can potentially see clients after the workshop series ends at 4 p.m. I am hopeful that we will go back live, but we will ultimately provide both formats in the future to allow people the freedom to choose between live, interactive webinars and live, in-person conferences.

7) Can I take this 30 hour education course if I am still an LLPC?

This course should only be taken by an LPC or an LLPC who will become an LPC (and be eligible to supervise) within 12 months that the course is offered. If you are going to get your LPC in at a later than 12 months after the next scheduled training, then you should NOT sign up for this course. The reason is that it would be best to take the training as close as possible to when you’re going to start supervising others, thus the material will be fresh and you will be able to utilize things learned in the workshop right away. There will be 3 conferences per year so you can always attend the next conference if your LPC will obtained over 12 months from this training date.

8) Is this Clinical Supervision Workshop good for the educational requirements for both the ACS and CCS?

YES! We are an NBCC approved provider which is recognized by the Center for Credentialing & Education (which is body that provides the Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS) certificate), and we are recognized by the Michigan Certification Board for Addiction Professionals (the governing body for the Certified Clinical Supervisor (CCS) certificate). This 30 hour supervision course covers the 9 designated content areas for the ACS and the 6 Performance Areas required for the CCS.

9) What are the Michigan supervision regulations/Where can I find the Michigan supervision regulations?

The Michigan Regulations can be found on our helpful links page. Recently, the Michigan house and senate passed house bill 4325 (now Public Act 96), which updates statute 333.18101 to accurately reflect the work LPCs currently do and their capacity to diagnose. 333.18106 speaks to the necessity for supervision training, leaving that training up to LARA and the Board of Counseling. Since 1/1/13 the standard has been 30 hours and will likely continue at this level. HB 4325 can be found here. May 5, 2021 the LARA Board of Counseling adopted new regulations (R 338.1751 – R 338.1781).

10) Once I have this 30 hour workshop course completed, will I have my ACS?

No. Once you complete this 30 hours of education will meet the Michigan administrative requirements to supervise Limited Licensed Professional Counselors. Currently in Michigan it is not required for you to obtain your ACS (Approved Clinical Supervisor). The ACS also requires 45 hours of supervision training, thus you would need to complete the additional 15 hours of home study coursework (which is included in the price).

11) Once I have this 30 hour workshop course completed, will I have my CCS?

No. Once you complete this 30 hours of education will meet the Michigan Certification Board for Addiction Professionals education requirements in the 6 Performance Areas but you still have other requirements to complete. You need to follow certain requirements and fill out the necessary forms if you have met the requirements (such as certain number of experiential hours, education, etc.). You can see the forms required for your CCS by clicking here.

12) Do I have to take the education right before I submit my ACS application, or can I submit my application to be an ACS at any time (e.g., 1-2 years) after taking the education component?

The CCE (Center for Credentialing & Education) states the education for your ACS does not have any type of time limit on it. Thus you can take the 45 hours of clinical supervision training and apply for your ACS 4 years, or 24 years, from now and you would be fine.

13) Is there any type of national test required (such as taking the NCEs for licensure) for the ACS?

No! The CCE does not require any type of national test in order to become an Approved Clinical Supervisor.

14) Once I get my ACS, what are the re-certification requirements?

The ACS certifies you for 5 years, and within those 5 years you have to receive 20 hours of continuing education in clinical supervision training (workshops). There are other requirements necessary to complete the application and obtain your ACS and they are:

  1. 1. The applicant must complete the education requirement of 45 clock hours.
  2. 2. The applicant must have five years post master’s degree, and 4,000 hours of mental health practice experience.
  3. 3. The applicant must possess a mental health license in the state in which they practice, or an NCC, or a licensed or certified clinical supervisor.
  4. 4. The applicant must document (through a supervisor) proof of supervising people for 100 hours (this is a page the supervisor fills out on the ACS application).
  5. 5. The applicant must complete a professional disclosure statement (10 part statement which is actually the 4th home study project for this 45 hour workshop series).
  6. 6. The applicant must fill out and return the ACS application to the CCE folks out in North Carolina. The CCE is the credentialing arm of the NBCC.
15) Post pandemic, will MI LPC supervisors be able to conduct virtual supervision over Zoom (or similar format)?

PARTIALLY (25%) YES. May 5, 2021 the LARA Board of Counseling adopted new regulations (R 338.1751 – R 338.1781). R 338.1774, Rule 74 states that of the minimum 100 hours of supervision required for master’s level LLPCs, 25 out of those 100 hours can be in virtual supervision using “2-way real-time audiovisual technology that allows direct, contemporaneous interaction by sight and sound between the supervisor and the supervisee.”

16) Is it true that you are from New Jersey?

YES! Alas it is true … but don’t hold that against me! I do consider myself a displaced Michigander, vanquished to NJ. I have been teaching clinical supervision in Michigan since 2013. I am very knowledgeable of all MI LPC/LLPC licensure statutes and regulations. Everything will be tailored to understand MI licensure standards and regulations, and be able to effectly supervise LLPCs regarding these statutes and regulations! My NJ LPC licensure # is: 37PC00095000. – Glenn Duncan
